Speaking of superb, enjoy the following look at current fishing conditions from Three Rivers Resort and Outfitting, our FishingTravelNetwork.com partner:
"Floating the Gunnison has been very good, and we are seeing some good caddis hatches. The East River will take a while longer before it will be wade-able. The Taylor River is running strong but can be waded in many places. The C&R section below the dam of the Taylor River continues to fish well. This is also a good time to fish smaller streams and high country lakes."
Taylor River Catch & Release (C&R - below the dam):
Small nymphs and midges, including Pheasant Tails 18-24, midges 20-24, mysis shrimp 18-22, RS2s 20-22, and Barr emergers 18-22. Some dry fly action in the afternoons with caddis, stoneflies, Green Drakes, and PMDs.
Taylor River:
Nymphs (14-18) and midges (20-24), including Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, and Hares Ears. Nymphs, Barr emergers, or midges trailed behind a stonefly nymph (20-Inchers and Golden Stones 8-12), and streamers. Dry fly action with caddis, stoneflies, Green Drakes, and PMDs.
East River:
Nymphs (14-18) and midges (20-24), including Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, and Hares Ears. Nymphs, Barr emergers, or midges trailed behind a stonefly nymph (20-Inchers and Golden Stones 8-12), and streamers. Dry fly action with caddis, stoneflies, Green Drakes, and PMDs.
Gunnison River:
Nymphs (12-18) and midges (20-24), including Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, Hares Ears, Micro Mayflies, and BLMs. Smaller nymphs trailed behind a large stonefly nymph. Our 20-Incher and Golden Stone stonefly patterns (8-12) are a good choice. Chucking streamers at the banks can be productive. Dry fly action with caddis, stoneflies, and PMDs.
